A note from Mary Mancini – Armed Forces Week

Armed Forces Week — Thank you for our Freedom

We cannot thank our Armed Forces and their families enough for their service and their sacrifice for our country. This week, Armed Forces Week, and this Saturday, Armed Forces Day, give us another opportunity to publicly thank the brave men and women who make up the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy, and who keep us safe, secure, and free.

Freedom, of course, means life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It’s free speech, independence from foreign rule and influence, and a government that is“of the people, by the people and for the people.”

But freedom means so much more. Freedom means that you, and every Tennessean, has the opportunity to make a better life for yourself and your family. Freedom means that you, and every Tennessean, has the opportunity for an education that fits your vision for a better future, a good-paying job that enables you to live a better life and retire with dignity and security, and the health to achieve your better life.Armed Forces Week
  • You are not free if you don’t have access to an education
  • You are not free if you have cancer but no healthcare
  • You are not free if you without opportunity for a good income
It’s patriotic for us to want ALL these freedoms for ourselves, our families, and every Tennessean, and our government has both a role and a patriotic duty to preserve these freedoms with us.

Every day we depend on our military to protect our freedoms and this week Tennessee Democrats thank them loudly and proudly.
