This meeting is extremely important to those who believe in a woman’s right to choice regarding abortion. Mark Mohundro of Planned Parenthood will explain Amendment 1 to the Tennessee Constitution, which is on the November ballot, and its ramifications. He will also answer questions from the audience.
Information from the Tennessee League of Women Voters regarding Amendment 1 and the three other amendments on the November ballot will be available at the meeting. All are welcome to attend. Cookies, coffee and bottled water will be served.
AMENDMENT 1 (Abortion): “Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of an abortion. The people retain the right through their elected state representatives and state senators to enact, amend, or repeal statutes regarding abortion, including, but not limited to, circumstances of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest or when necessary to save the life of the mother.”
AMENDMENT 2 (Judiciary): Empowers the governor to appoint judges subject to confirmation by the general assembly.
AMENDMENT 3 (Taxes): Prohibits the legislature from levying or permitting any tax upon payroll or earned personal income.
AMENDMENT 4 (Gambling): Prohibits the legislature from levying or permitting any tax upon payroll or earned personal income.
